Athletic Director Ramaundo Vaughn has been a successful championship winning coach in his own right, so he knows what a successful coach looks like! He didn’t have to look far for a slam dunk hire! Just through the tunnel to the city of Oakland. The College of Alameda recently made a game-changing move by hiring NBA Hall of Famer Gary Payton as the new head coach of its men’s basketball program. Known for his grit, tenacity, and defensive prowess, Payton brings a wealth of experience and a championship mentality to the junior college level, where he aims to build a culture centered around toughness, discipline, and defense.  He is supported by many Ex-NBA players and his long time friends & teammates in the Oakland.

A nine-time NBA All-Star, two-time Olympic gold medalist, and 2006 NBA Champion, "The Glove" is widely regarded as one of the greatest defensive guards in the history of the game.
